Republicans aren’t very good at this whole Big Lie about anti-Trump and anti-ICE raids protests, but Governor Abbott really betrayed the lie by ordering the National Guard to his state of Texas in advance of Saturday’s protests.

This proves that the National Guard is not being deployed because the situation is out of control, but rather as a form of intimidation against the First Amendment rights of Americans.

“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to deploy National Guard across the state in response to protests,” ABC News reported. Following it with the more informative point that he did this AHEAD of the protests, “The move comes ahead of a planned protest in San Antonio and follows days of protest in L.A. and across the nation.”

“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday that he’ll deploy the National Guard to locations across the state ‘to ensure peace and order’ ahead of a planned protest in San Antonio.”

Abbott claims the National Guard is being deployed to “ensure” peace and order, but that is the role law enforcement, not federal troops. Local law enforcement is trained on community policing; federal troops are not.

In reality:

The National Guard is being deployed to quell dissent.

The National Guard is being deployed to scare people.

The National Guard is being deployed to distract people from the theft of Republicans Big Betrayal Bill.

The National Guard is being deployed to distract from Trump’s weakness on tariffs.

The National Guard is being deployed to distract from Trump stumbling on the stairs of Air Force One.

The National Guard is being deployed as a show of strength from a very unpopular president and party that is seeking to steal healthcare from 10-15 million people.

The National Guard is not being deployed because there is an insurrection, as the protests have not even started yet.

The National Guard is not being deployed because the protest is violent, as again, the protest has not even happened yet.

Previous No Kings protests have been predominantly peaceful, and they advocate for peaceful protest on their website.

Abbott just betrayed the Big Lie. They are deploying the National Guard to put down peaceful protests.

Don’t let them get away with criminalizing free speech.
